An Exciting New Support Centre for Construction in Essex
In a new and ground-breaking partnership between business and Local Authorities, Wilson James and Essex County Council are pleased to announce a new support facility for construction in Essex, promoting the latest advances in consolidation techniques, off site fabrication, vehicle control, and construction support logistics. Situated just off the M25 at Thurrock, the centre provides a strategically located base to support construction activity in Essex and to reduce congestion and carbon emissions in our towns and cities. It has been proven that through such centres it is possible to:
- Reduce construction costs by up to 5%
- Reduce materials related delays by nearly 50%
- Improve delivery reliability to over 95%
and
- Reduce construction traffic into towns by 65%
- Reduce carbon emissions from that construction traffic by 75%
Essex County Council has shown an appetite to support innovative solutions to drive sustainability targets and to support the logistics industry, one of huge importance in the County, providing extensive jobs and revenue. The Council has formed the Supply Chain Innovation and Excellence (SCIE) forum to promote business through new ideas and this centre is one of their key projects. Wilson James is an advocate of innovative solutions to logistic challenges within the construction industry and a supporter of increased supply chain efficiency. The company is a recognised industry leader in consolidation and construction support logistics. Our academic partner, the Institute for Manufacturing (IfM) part of the University of Cambridge, is a recognised world leader in industrial process design and management and will bring best working practice to the project. ECC is subject to demanding national targets on reduction of carbon footprint and traffic and has been innovative in the incorporation of those carbon targets in new builds and in building design criteria.
We understand the impact of construction activity on communities and the environment, and contribute to methods to reduce that impact. We are proud to work in partnership to help the construction industry in Essex and to promote cleaner air and less congestion for our communities.
