BuildForce, a collaborative industry-led programme with an objective to reduce skills gaps in the construction industry and built environment whilst offering a second career to military personnel, is pleased to sign the Armed Forces Covenant today, 5th April at the Horse Guards with Brigadier Andrew Wright. Brigadier Wright commented: “The support of employers is vital to Defence People objectives, including the recruitment and retention of Reservists, the employment of veterans and Service spouses/partners and the Cadets movement. Making a public pledge of support makes a statement to the Armed Forces community that they are valued by society and encourages other organisations to do the same.”
BuildForce has connected with over 1000 Service Leavers and Veterans nationwide; inducted 476, placed 145 in jobs, 151 in industry work placements with 540 benefiting from our 1-2-1 mentoring programme.
Caroline Logan, BuildForce’s Project Director signed on behalf of the programme and was joined by founding partners EY, Lendlease, Morgan Sindall and Wilson James. In attendance were some of their military candidates and further members from the BuildForce Alliance. Caroline commented: “I am delighted to be signing The Armed Forces Covenant on behalf of BuildForce. I have enjoyed supporting our candidates into an industry which is often over-looked; helping them to realise their great potential and transferrable skills has been the highlight of my career and being instrumental in their next chapter has been a great honour.”
Angela Forbes, Chair of BuildForce and Commercial Director of Lendlease added: “We are delighted to show our commitment to the UK Armed Forces through the corporate covenant. We heavily support our forces and know first-hand the sacrifices made by them and their families. We are excited to continue building on our achievements in supporting their transition to industry and look forward to helping even more in the months and years ahead.”
