Heathrow’s new recycling scheme
On Tuesday the 12th of March, Heathrow launched the first hard hat recycling scheme. Inspired by Heathrow 2.0, the scheme required teams at Heathrow Airport to recycle their damaged or expired hard hats by using the specially designed hard hat shaped bin.
Wilson James are the logistics integrator at Heathrow and have played a major role in bringing this idea to life by emptying the bins and delivering the hard hats to a company called ‘Yes Recycling’. The hats are then broken down to make a polymer, which is made into pellets for distribution to UK customers. The pellets are then used to make many different plastic products including traffic cones, barriers and water attenuation tanks for construction sites.
Well done to everyone who is taking part in this great recycling scheme!
